This Week's Buzz. . .
Room 5 welcomes ladybugs, caterpillars, and tadpoles too!!
These creatures have been the focus for our curriculum over the past two weeks. The best part of hosting these new friends is seeing the stages of their life cycles first hand.

Can you see the empty pupa on the side of the glass? When the ladybugs arrived, they were just larvae.
Our caterpillars have spun their chrysalises and in a few more days we hope to have beautiful butterflies!
Informative Writing
Everyday this week, students have been researching and writing facts about butterflies. We centered our research on what butterflies look like, what they eat, where they live, and even some cool facts! Students have used technology and written based research materials. They even learned how to examine real life photos to find information for their individual reports. Students are developing life-long skills to take notes, sketch to stretch, draw diagrams with labels, and write a report!
Next week we finish our reports, write a table of contents, and even get them laminated and bound for you to read!
Shaping-Up!
During math, students are reviewing shapes and their attributes. We love to discover real life examples of shapes in our classroom and school. I encourage you to have your child find some shapes around the house or out shopping! We will explore solid shapes next week!
End of the Year. . .
Kindergartners in Room 5 have worked SO hard this year!! I am SO proud of who they have become and how much they have learned over such a short period of time. What better way to commemorate their progress? CELEBRATE!!!
The Kindergarten team is preparing for an end of the year celebration. Information will be sent home next week, so please look out for more details.
-Other fun activities will be sprinkled throughout the next couple of weeks too.
I will keep families informed about these events and any additional information needed.
-Spring weather has sprung and therefore recess and classrooms are heating up! Packing an extra water bottle or drink would be helpful. Students are always welcomed to get a drink at the water fountain too!
-Homework tic-tac-toe boards will continue for the next 2 weeks. If you're looking for other ways to continue to support your child before or during summertime; we suggest students continue to read and have conversations about their reading. Some guiding questions while reading are:
-What was your favorite part and why?
-What did this story make you think of?
- How did the character feel in the beginning and end of the story?
-Who are the characters?
-What was the setting (place the story takes place)?
-Can you retell the story without looking back in the book?
-Our final Scholastic Book order forms went home. This is your last chance to order this year. These are inexpensive ways to find books for your child. I can certainly help recommend a book of interest or level if you're interested!
