What a beautiful day for apple picking! We had a blast of our first field trip to Parlee Farms. The students went on a hay ride to the apple trees and picked 5 apples. Then off to the pumpkin patch we went! Some students selected large orange pumpkins, while others wanted a smaller white pumpkin. I hope you and your family enjoy displaying them in your home. After lunch we fed the goats, bunnies, and chickens. Finally, we explored the hay maze. The kids had a blast! Thank you to our chaperones and those of you who volunteered. Rhyme
This week we've been talking about rhyme. We read a lot of Dr. Seuss books, played some games, and used the poem below called the Super Rhyming Queen to practice our skills. If you're looking for some rhyme activities check out the home connection tab on the blog. Next week we will begin Fundations!
Center Tubs
Once our ELA block is up and running students will be working in independent centers and/or guided reading groups. To introduce this system students will be learning each center individually. Our first and BEST center is our Center Tubs. Center tubs are a range of differentiated games and activities related to our literacy contact. Center tubs are one of the most effective and FUN ways for students to practice their literacy skills. They truly believe they are just simply playing games yet they are working hard and learning! Numbers 0-5
Topic 1 in our Envision 2.0 program focuses on counting, one to one relationships, and writing the numbers 0-5. Students are doing well with these foundational skills and enjoy using Jack Hartmann's songs to help practice. Check out his video below:
Teacher Talk
-Mrs. Miri's arrival has been such an exciting time! She is already learning our classroom routines and loves sharing her love for reading with us! Make sure you check out her biography in an earlier post.
- Thank you to ALL of the parents who were willing to volunteer for our Apple Picking field trip. We were unfortunately limited to four chaperones per classroom and was forced to pick out of a hat. I have never had such a large number of volunteers before. It is a tremendous honor to be apart of a community where parents are SO invested in their child's education. Thank you again and I hope those who were not chosen continue to find other field trips and/or opportunities to help out in the classroom.
- The take a break spot has been remodeled and filled with calming choices: coloring, fidget toys, and stuffed animals. All students will get an opportunity to practice taking a break. Taking a break is a way for students to take a moment for themselves.
- We are practicing healthy habits when blowing noses, sneezing, coughing, and preparing for our cold season. Throughout the year we are always looking for donations of tissues, hand sanitizer, and disinfectant wipes.
-September Scholastic Book orders have arrived. I know there were a few parents who were still looking to make an order. I will submit an additional September order next week just in case anyone else wants to make an order from September's list. October Scholastic Book orders will be sent out next week and due on October 21st. Please look over the flyers with your child and make some selections if you'd like! Your purchases have already helped us earn books for the classroom!!

Students will receive their field trip t-shirts on the day of the trip and wear them home to keep until the next field trip.

I am happy to introduce our classroom assistants: Mrs. Miri and Ms. Beauchesne! We are SO fortunate to have them apart of our teaching team! Their role will be to assist in classroom routines and student learning! In the beginning of the year, Mrs. Field was kind enough to help out and will now return to her role as Fox Hill’s building substitute. Thank you Mrs. Field! My name is Sasha Miri and I am incredibly excited to join Fox Hill Elementary as Mrs. Bennett's Instructional Assistant. I am a recent transplant from the Dallas, Texas area where I have lived and worked for the past decade. I attended and graduated from Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. After graduation, I began my professional and award winning elementary school teaching career with Mansfield Independent School District. During my career with Mansfield ISD, I was nominated for Teacher of the Year on two different occasions and founded our school’s Spirit Squad. In addition, I obtained additional teaching certifications in Elementary Education, English as a Second Language, and Gifted and Talented instruction.
I have two beautiful daughters, Madeline and Morgan, who keep me very busy! Positively impacting the lives of young children is my passion. I am thrilled to be on this new journey with your children and families. My goal is to educate, lead, mentor, and serve as an exemplary role model within the Burlington academic school system. I look forward to meeting your family and being involved daily with your child’s development.
My name is Carollee Beauchesne. I am a sign language interpreter in the class as well as an assistant. I have been in education for 26 years and absolutely love it! I am a mother of 4 amazing sons and live in New Hampshire. I am so excited to work with your fabulous children this year! I hope they love kindergarten as much as we all do!
