Holiday Celebrations

The Holiday Season is among us!
We are learning each day of a new holiday tradition and celebration.
We started our learning with some great read alouds.

Reading About Holiday Traditions

Latkes, Latkes, Latkes
To learn about Hanukkah, we read a story about the Jewish traditions and significance of oil. To remember the lessons learned in our story we made latkes flippers!
We had a blast making and playing with our craft.

Gingerbread Houses
In computers we made our own virtual gingerbread houses.
At the end we got to share our finish product and talk about our favorite detail.

Fundations
We learned two new letters this week:

v-van-/v/            and         w-wind-/w/

We only have 4 more letters to go until we have learned the whole alphabet!
We will use this week as a review week since there are only 3 days of school. When we return from vacation we will wrap up our letters with z,x,q, and y.

Math

Before winter break we will have completed 6 topics in our math curriculum.  There are 16 total for the school year. Topic 6 focused on counting by 10s and 2s. We looked at a one-hundred's chart and noticed patterns when counting. For example only the tens column is colored when counting by tens and every-other column is colored when counting by 2s.

We will use the next three days as review and begin topic 7 after the break. Topic 7 is the beginnings of addition.
