Preparing for Winter

Happy December!

This week's focus has been on: How do people and animals prepare for winter?

Some animals hibernate. Some animals migrate. While others adapt. 

To learn more we read:

      

We talked about Characters, Setting, and our favorite part when reading a story. This is a great way to develop comprehension skills. After reading a story ask your child what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of the story. Also asked them to tell you the characters and setting of the story.

In Fundations...

We learned letters:

 

and started to identify first/beginning sounds of words. Next week we will move onto end/final sounds. 

In Math...

We learned how to count, write, and read numbers to 20! 

Book Buddies!!

On Friday Second Grade came to our class to share a story.

How Room 5 Prepares for winter...

Our class is working diligently to practice "good" health around cold season. 

We are asking students to remember to use hand sanitizer and tissues when necessary. 

In hopes of continuing these great habits we are looking for any donations of tissues, hand sanitizer,or even disinfectant wipes. We appreciate any donations and contributions to our classroom.

We are looking forward to having Lowe’s come to Fox Hill on Tuesday, December 15th. The students will be building a train engine that Lowe’s is providing to all students. This will tie nicely into our science curriculum engineering standards.

We will be building the trains at our school. We will be working on this project in the morning 10:00AM to about 11:30AM.

We need to have parents come in to help with this project. If you are interested and have a completed CORI on file in the main office, please contact your child’s teacher by Wednesday, December 9th. 

More information will be sent home as the date draws closer

Polar Express 

On Tuesday, December 22nd, kindergarten will be “traveling” on the Polar Express to the North Pole. (All of the activities will occur in the classroom.) We will read the story, The Polar Express and the students will have a ticket for the “ride”. The students will be doing some Polar Express activities in class as well.

Your child can wear his or her pajamas to school that day and may even bring slippers to change into.  This will be a fun experience for your child and a nice way to end 2015.  

We would love to have some parent volunteers help out on this day. We would need volunteers to help from 9:30-11:30am. If you are able to help, please contact your child’s teacher by Friday, December 11th.
