Cupid Addition & Subtraction
Students played a game this week incorporating Valentine's day and math. We placed paper plates on the rug with numbers 0-10 on the rug. Each student got a chance to be "Cupid". When you are cupid you get to toss two arrows onto the plates. On Tuesday we added the two numbers together to find the sum. On Wednesday we subtracted the numbers to find the difference. When subtracting...don't forget the greater number always goes first! You can play this fun game at home using paper plates and small objects like coins. We will continue to complete our quick check-exit tickets and build our addition and subtraction fluency skills after vacation. Keep practicing!!
Post Office
The Fox Hill post office is up and running! Students are writing letters to siblings and friends in other classrooms and grades. The letters are placed in the school's mailbox and are awaiting their delivery from the fifth graders. After vacation we will start to receive letters from other students. We are getting good at writing a friendly letter and learning the components of how to write a letter. If you'd like to write your child a letter let me know or stop by the main lobby. Don't forget the stamp (sticker)!
Poetry
We are continuing to add to our Poetry folders. Each week a new poem is introduced and we practice it daily. During centers we highlight the rhyme and illustrate the poem. This week we even got a chance to reread some of our favorites! Ask your child which was their favorite poem we've learned thus far.

Valentine's Day Celebration
I am so grateful for all the amazing kindness our class showed to one another this Valentine's Day. Before we opened valentines, we modeled and talked about what it looks to show our thankfulness to one another. Students learned to open valentines carefully, look at the valentine, and then go up to their friend and say thank you. The class executed this exercise successfully. There was compliments and hugs given all around. The class even requested a group hug during our closing circle. I hope your child shared their happiness and joy with you.

100th Day Superheroes!
The 100th day superheroes transformed out of their regular clothes and into their 100th day capes! We paraded through the office, hallways, and gym. We saw some older students and teachers. Back at the classroom we completed several 100th day task, such as 100 exercises, 100 cup structures, and 100th day hats! We counted to 100 by 5s, 10s, and 1s. We did so well that Evil Dr. Double Digit was defeated!! Zero the Hero, Superhero leader, sent us letters to congratulate us on our victory. Students received a certificate and a 100th day medal. Great work Kindergarten Superheroes. Check out our fun-filled day!!
