Ladybug Research

We began our final writing unit on informative writing. We will complete a whole class report on ladybugs. Students broke up into small research groups to learn more about ladybugs. Students observed real life ladybugs and photos, listened to videos on the iPads, and read books. All of their research will be compiled into a class book. We hope to have it finished soon and sent home for you to read with your child. 

Next week, students will take what they've learned about reports and informational writing to research and write their own individual reports on either a giraffe, lion, or elephant. It is a great way to begin our study on animal groups and lead us to our field trip to the zoo!

Butterflies

Our Butterflies hatched after-school and I had to release them before the weekend. I am sorry the kids didn't get a chance to see but I will share the video below with them on Monday. Feel free to share this with them over the weekend too!

Reading Level Certificates

Last week, your child received a reading level certificate. These certificates listed your child's   reading level from the winter and their end of the year level. There was a lot of growth and progress this year. I am so proud of their accomplishments.  I hope you will continue to read with your child over the summer and practice retelling the story. Taking the time to read and discuss the book will help to maintain all their hard work over the summer.

End of the Year Celebration

On June 14th we will host our end of the year celebration.  All of Kindergarten will be performing a few songs for you and your family in the cafeteria. You've probably already heard many of these songs at home! They can easily get stuck in your head and our practiced daily! =) At the conclusion of our performance we will award students with a certificate of completion and head back to your child's classroom.  Back in the classroom, students will have a chance to share their writing portfolios and other pieces of work. There will be a short slideshow and other displays to see. After our classroom visit, we will head outside to eat lunch and play on the playground. If you have any questions about the specifics or celebration please let me know. We welcome grandparents and immediate family members to join us! We look forward to sending off this year's Kindergarten class in style!! 

Last Field Trip

Our last field trip will take place on June 2nd. We will be heading to the Franklin Park Zoo. Field trip forms went home today. Please consider volunteering to chaperone. It will be your last opportunity to help out this year. We are looking for many volunteers and hope to take as many volunteers as possible. There is a lot to see and the kids are eager to see it all! We will be having lunch on the trip and will ask students to pack a nut-free, disposable lunch & snack. 


Fidget Spinners
Fox Hill has seen an influx of fidget spinners at school. This week I talked to students about their fidget spinners and when to use them in class.  Mrs. Johnson, our school principal, has asked that fidget spinners be NOT used as a toy.  This means fidget spinners will NOT be allowed at recess or lunch.  I will speak to the students about the new policy change. We appreciate you keeping them at home if you feel there might be an issue or a concern of them becoming lost or broken. If you have any other questions please let me know.
