Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
All week we celebrated the fun and quirky characters of Dr. Seuss.
We made ourselves into Thing 1 and Thing 2
We embraced our inner Cat in the Hat.
We even imagined ourselves covered in spots!
Look out for 2 new class books adapted from some of our favorite Dr. Seuss stories!
Center Time
After finishing up our instruct unit in writing, we are back to rotating through our centers. Students are working hard to show "Star Quality" work and be independent workers. This is very important in preparation for First Grade. Students are working on Fundations, Writing, Poetry, Sight Words, and Reading every day. One of our favorite centers is write around the room!
Ask your child what this center is about and why it is their favorite?
Math
This week we wrapped up Topic 9 in our Envisions program. Topic 9 is decomposing numbers to 10. Students have learned how to show any number, 1-10, in multiple ways. They can show different combinations using counters or in a number sentence. We even touched upon graphing and how we can find out information from looking at a graph. We polled our class to find out which was their favorite color. It was a close race!!
Next week we will be moving on to Topic 10, composing numbers 11-19. This is a very quick unit and do not be surprised if we finish it by the end of the week. Kindergarteners are working hard in math.
Keep practicing addition and subtraction flashcards for mastery.
Mystery Readers!
We we're fortunate enough to have 3 mystery readers come to our classroom. Thank you to those parents who volunteered to go first! The students love to guess who the mystery reader might be based on the clues provided. Some of them were really tricky!
We look forward to having the rest of our readers in throughout the rest of the year. If you'd like to volunteer please let me know. We still have openings available or can make time to fit your individual schedule.
